The Sundance Film Festival was started in 1978 by Robert Redford’s company to get more film makers to Utah. It has since become a huge showcase for independent film makers to showcase their product.
The Sundance Film Festival has grown from Salt Lake City to include two other towns as well as the Sundance Resort and London. The festival is held in January each year and attracts thousands of people to its films. The festival has been a major tourist attraction since opening in 1978 and has increased tourism, production of independent films, and notoriety for movies like Deliverance, A Streetcar Named Desire, Napoleon Dynamite, and directors such as Quentin Tarantino and Kevin Smith.
Everybody knows about Octoberfest and the Christmas Tree Lighting but did you know that Leavenworth brings a line-up of some of the best independent films from the Sundance Film Festival to town? VOX DOCS Film Festival is sponsored by the Icicle Creek Center for the Arts. This year the film festival is March 11-12 and has many independent films that have been gaining notoriety all over the world. Some of these include; He Named Me Malala,
Unbranded, Racing Extinction, and The Mask We Live In. These are movies that are garnering attention for Oscars as well as competing with some of the biggest movie distributors for time on the big screen. What an opportunity!
You can buy tickets from the VOX DOCS website to see one show or the whole series, as well as an afterparty on Friday night. VOX DOCS also supports a number of non-profits in town with the money raised from the festival. This is a great opportunity to come over to Leavenworth during a quieter time period to experience a little culture in a gorgeous Bavarian town.
Pine River Ranch is a great place to headquarter your stay during the film festival. If you show your ticket at check-in we will discount one of your room nights at the same rate as your ticket price and throw in a bottle of Eagle Creek Wine or Big E Ales beer in a growler.
