Ice Climbing in Washington Locations

While NMS offers climbing excursions all over the world, they offer the most choices in the North Cascades for nearly every skill level. Here are just some of the excursions that are available to you near Leavenworth:

1. Mt. Buckner Climb (Available March-October)

The climb to the north face of Mt. Buckner is a very sought after goal among Northwest climbers. While the trip is challenging and requires previous climbing experience, it is an experience unlike any other. You will climb above the magnificent Boston Glacier, learn more about professional ice climbing, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

2. Mt. Fury Climb (Custom Dates)

Located in the Northwest Picket Range, Mount Fury is the epitome of alpine beauty. While it is one of the most challenging excursions, it is also one of the most scenic. Experienced climbers will love the trek that previous climbers have described as, “a magical experience for both guides and clients.”

3. Forbidden Peak Climb (Available June-September)

Forbidden Peak is one of the most popular locations for guided climbing in the Pacific Northwest. One of its three routes was also featured in the well-known book “Fifty Classic Climbs in North America.” Each route is rated as moderately difficult and requires a comfortable knowledge of using ice axes and crampons.

4. Mt. Shuksan Climb (Available June-September)

Mt. Shuksan is rated as one of the easiest ice climbs in Leavenworth and also offers several different routes to choose from. The mountain is located in North Cascades National Park and may be one of the most photographed mountains in the world. It is a great place to start learning the ice climbing technique and also enjoy the region’s undeniable beauty.

5. Eldorado Peak Climb (Available June-September)

The Eldorado Climb caters to two experience levels. There is a route perfect for beginners and a trail that is better suited to more experienced climbers.
